While I much prefer literary FANTOMAS to cinematic, I came to Feuillade (and therefore, Fantomas) on David Kalat's recommendation in both his indispensable Mabuse book and his DVD commentary where Kalat correctly point to Feuillade as an influence on Fritz Lang.
